Moving Services and Adjusting Lab Benches/Shelves

Whenever you are moving equipment, shelves, or anything else in the labs, please take extra precautions to protect yourself, your equipment, and other people and their property. Additionally, when moving lab shelves specifically, ensure the shelf is even and is fully locked in before placing any weight on the shelf.

Please feel free to request ladders or other tools to make moving/installing equipment or shelves safer by submitting a ticket or stopping by our offices.

In general, you are welcome to move your own lab equipment. There are pallet jacks, equipment jacks, and furniture dollies located in storage room 202 that you are welcome to use for this purpose. Similarly, if you would like to adjust, remove, or install additional lab bench shelves you may do so but please be careful. If you need additional shelves or need extra shelves to be taken away, please submit a ticket with the number of shelves you need and whether the shelves are for a 5- or 6-foot lab bench (if you don't know the length of the lab bench, just include the bench number). After you have adjusted your shelf/shelves, contact the Bakar Labs team and we will stop by your bench to verify that the shelf is secured (by giving it a whack with a mallet).

If you are not comfortable moving your own equipment or shelves, UC Berkeley has movers that can be contracted to assist. If you are interested in employing them for these services, please submit a ticket with the details. We will connect with you and send the request to moving services. Please be aware that you will be responsible for the costs of using these services.

Lab benches are height adjustable but we request that you do not do this on your own. They are extremely heavy and temperamental. If you would like the height adjusted, please submit a ticket and we will contract the movers to come and complete this adjustment for you.
