Navigating the Building

You can find the basic floor plans of the building here.

Here are some universal terms that we use to describe the different spaces:

Entrances/ Exits

  • Durant Ave entrance/exit is on the Ground Floor

  • Bancroft Way entrance and exit is off the lobby

Lobby

  • The reception desk, bike storage, main bathrooms, and conference room

General Info

  • If the room numbers start with a 1 or 5, you are in the laboratory areas

  • If the room numbers start with a 3, you are in the office areas

Offices

  • The Main Floor: this is the area where the cubicles are located. These are the only cubicles in the building. This also refers to the adjacent conference rooms, private offices, and workstations. The lobby is above and adjacent to The Main Floor. Private offices 321 to 327 and conference rooms 322, 328, and 329 are located on this floor.

  • The Mezzanine: this is where conference room 318 is located.

  • The Orchestra: this is where the workstations that have yellow fabric are located. Private offices 331 and 332 are also located here.

  • The Expansion: this is where the workstations that have orange fabric are located. This area also has private offices 336 to 342 are located.

Gallery Labs

  • Gallery Labs: Any room that starts with a “5” is on this floor. Open labs 507, 509, 511, and 513 (and half of the private labs) are on the top floor. These are the labs that each have a balcony in front of them. Core Facility 505, Glasswash and Autoclave 501, Tissue Culture 502 and Freezer Farm 503 are located at near 505. The numbers go down as you ascend the steps or the ramps.

Ground Floor Labs

  • Ground Floor: Any room that starts with a “1” is on this floor. This is probably the hardest portion of the building to navigate. Open labs 122, 119, and 115 are located on this floor as well as Tissue Culture 116, Microbial Lab 119A and the other half of the private labs.

  • The common spaces, kitchen, and auditorium are also on this floor
