Connecting to the Printer

Created by Adrian Miu, Modified on Mon, 5 Jan at 9:42 AM by Amelia Farmer

Our building has a shared Xerox AltaLink C8145 printer, which is located in the expansion areas, near the Kumquat conference room. There is no fee for using this printer, but each company has an accounting code that is used for tracking purposes. If you need to find you company's code, please submit a ticket.

The instructions for connecting to the printer are below, which will allow you to use the printer as long as you are on the eduroam network.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

**Mac OS Installation Note: VERY IMPORTANT to enter the IP address of the printer DURING the driver install, not after. If you do not do this, the uninstall process for the driver is terrible and you have to start over.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  1. Make sure you are connected to eduroam

  2. Make sure the accounting code has been entered correctly

  3. Make sure you're printing at 100% scale: usually called "Default", "Fit", "Fit to page", or manually set at 100% scale

Download the correct driver

  1. Select your operating system from the drop-down menu and then click "Apply Filters"

  2. You must be connected to eduroam for this installation to work, and to print from this printer

MAC OS Installation

  1. IMPORTANT STEP:  you must complete this process fully and ensure you enter the correct IP address to connect to the printer. If you do not, it will not work and the process to re-install is painful!

  2. Using the link above, filter the print drivers for you version of MacOS. Under the option called "macOS Print and Scan Driver Installer" check to agree to terms and conditions, then click Download

  3. Find the downloaded files and open them to begin the installation

  4. Click through the installation Wizard, and at Select Printer enter the IP address 136.152.47.2, either by clicking on the server connected to a T-junction or selecting "Don't See Your Printer?"
This is an image of the macOS “Install Xerox Drivers” installation wizard at the “Select Printer” step. The left sidebar shows the setup steps, with “Select Printer” highlighted. In the main window, the “Discovered Printers” list is empty. At the top, two large icons are displayed: one showing multiple networked computers and another showing a single computer connected to a horizontal bar (a T-junction–style server). The single-computer icon is outlined in red and pointed to with a red arrow, indicating the option to manually select or add a printer when no printers are discovered.

  5. After entering the IP address, continue through the installation Wizard until it tells you the installation is complete

  6. Now open a print dialogue to save a new preset that will send your accounting code when printing. If you do not send an accounting code, all that will print is an error page.

    1. If you do not know your company’s printing code, check the welcome email you received during your on-boarding process

  7. Select the printer you installed, then open the Printer Options menu and click the information icon next to "Xerox Features"

  8. Use the dropdown menu at the top to navigate to the Advanced tab. Then click the accounting button

  9. Enter the accounting information. Uncheck "Print Time Prompt" and enter your printing code in the Default User ID box

  10. Click Ok and navigate back to the main printing screen. Before you print, open your presets drop-down and “Save Current Settings as Preset.” Give it a name you will remember (eg. Bakar Labs). As long as you use this preset, you will not have to enter the printer code each time
