How to properly tie a biohazard bag

Tie bag with an overhand knot or a secured gooseneck.  A secured goose neck "knot" is made by twisting the neck of the bag, bend it over in half and secure bend with duct tape or a tie (twist tie, zip tie).

Dispose of Properly
Biohazardous waste must be transported inside a rigid, leak-resistant, labeled container with the lid closed;

When the red bag is full tie or tape the bag closed. Remove bag from the Bakar Labs step trash can and place your sealed bag inside the transfer pail. Secure the lid on the transfer container, wipe down the container with 70% ethanol and transport it to the biohazardous waste storage room in 202A.

Dispose of sharps containers when they are 3/4 full. Close the opening (seal it with tape if necessary) and place it in your biohazardous waste container

When tenants receive their biohazard waste container, they should line the bin with a California compliant red bag before adding any sharp containers or the biohazard waste red bags from the TC rooms. This is a Bakar Labs policy.

Tenants should work with Stericycle to determine the red bag size required for their 43 gallon bin, 33 gallon or 17 gallon bins.
