Red BSL2 Biohazard Bags & Compliant ASTM codes

If you do BSL-2 work and have/need red waste bags, please make sure they are compliant with federal DOT regulations.

The MUST have the following certifications:

American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) 

ASTM D1922 Tear Resistance in both directions 

ASTM D1709 Dart Impact Resistance

You can purchase these red BSL-2 waste bags at Barker Hall Store Room or through VWR Cat.# 14220-096. This catalog # is for a 12-gallon bag that will fit our 8-gallon step-can provided in the TC rooms. (Do NOT overfill!)

IMPORTANT:

If these certifications are not visible on your red bags, there's a chance you are using a non-compliant red waste bag. This means you can NO longer continue to use these waste bags and will need to dispose of them properly. In order to properly dispose of these non-compliant red bags. You will need to place them inside a compliant red waste bag with the ASTM D1922 & ASTM D1709 codes, and then placed inside your own Stericycle container in room 202A. If you have further questions on this, please feel free to submit a ticket for more information.
